We had fun, so did he. We're all much more relaxed for having had some time off. I even ignored my desire to submit a paper to a big conference (due Jan 10). Had a fab time, although it was hard to get a real break since we most of our day rotated around the little one. What made it a lot easier is that neither of us was distracted by work or life, so we ended up spending lots of time on the beach, or driving, or cooking, or eating out. Pretty much perfect. I love to swim. Always have. Some have called me half a fish. Sorrys are due. Mostly, I've been busy setting up a new website for baby-boy: ask me about it if you want to have a login and password.


The rest of the time has been taken up by a trip to Toronto for passport renewal. The place was worse than a sauna or, more accurately, a Turkish bath since it was humid. At least I can say that much for this week. The spasms stopped on their own a day or so after the doctor's visit. The rest of the week consisted of recovery, so I skipped my cardio workout and went to a stretchy-therapist in the building opposite us who helped out my back and the rest of my body. And slowly paid the price. During late pregnancy, my pelvis suffered. Two months postpartum, my back is back to its old tricks. It's on the verge of a serious muscle spasm. We had a follow up visit with the doctor yesterday and he now weighs an impressive 4.4 kg (or 9.2lbs). Still growing at a massive rate of 42g per day. Clearly, no issue with breast milk, but the doctor says it's no wonder my nipples have been torn apart. The solution: basically none until he feeds less often per day. We're working on it.

Is the word that describes my week. Oh, sure, on occasion I manage to raise enough energy to bound along to the hospital (for two hours of waiting in line), do some knitting (my little boy needs warm pants), or get on with work.

Although my rash has abated in most areas, lots of itchy patches remain. And the rash has spread all over my back, which is now the "inflamed" area. I suspect I'm suffering from PUPPP, an irritating skin condition that some pregnant women get and is more likely if you are having a boy. Even though he was old and had been unwell, in-and-out of hospital for nearly two months, something like this always comes as a bit of a surprise. And it's affected hubby quite a bit.


I have fond memories of grandpapa. Whenever we passed by hubby's hometown, we always made a point of visiting him to say hi. You're teaching for 2.5 hours but not in your normal room. Oh no. They've moved all classes to a campus 30 minutes away by bus, because  of a conference that's going on in your own building. The "other" campus looks nice but it is old. And therefore has no air-conditioning in the classroom you've been assigned.

Eeww. I know that snow storms are pretty common late spring, but I'm still very grateful that I spent today basking in some 33C by the pool on this last full day in Singapore. 
We're due for another long set of flights tomorrow. After some tense days watching the volcanic ash cloud and the status of our flight, we decided to jump the gun and buy new (!!!) tickets to Singapore, using an alternative route. Instead of flying via London, we went via Hong Kong. This, we thought, would absolve us from any ash issues.

And it's throwing a spanner in the works for a lot of people's travel plans. I've been watching it closely for several days now as in a few days, hubby and I are supposed to be flying to the other side of the world via Europe.

A busy week. Filled with meetings and writing. I got the first part of the paper done this week and am super-excited about it. A friend has agreed to read it through so let's hope it passed the "friendly peer review" test. If so, then it'll be ready to forward to my co-author.
